At New City, we aim to deliver a high-quality music curriculum which inspires and enriches pupils to fulfil their musical potential. EYFS are working in partnership with Newham Music Academy to embed music throughout their curriculum and create the building blocks of needed to progress. Music lessons are delivered by our in-house music teacher and through external providers from Newham Music Academy. As children progress through the school, they will get a chance to learn to play a variety of instruments:

EYFS – classroom percussion
Key Stage 1 – xylophones and glockenspiels
Year 3 – ukulele
Year 4 – recorder
Year 5 – brass
Year 6 – guitar and violin

In addition to our curriculum, we have 4 whole school shows per year for the children to showcase their learning and year 6 perform a musical as their final primary performance.

Our choir regularly performs in the community and annually at the O2 Arena as part of Young Voices. They rehearse after school every Thursday.

We are also part of the Plaistow Grooves project run by Newham Music Academy who are running an Indian music project linked with other local schools.
