Inclusion and Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Inclusion

Vision
At New City Primary School we appreciate that Inclusion is seen as a universal human right. We embrace all children irrespective of race, gender, disability, medical or other special educational need.  It is the right of parents and children to access mainstream education alongside their peers, where parents want it and children’s needs can be met.

We believe that the school environment should be a place that all children can access every day, in order to participate equally, confidently and independently in activities.

The focus is on the individual child. Therefore in our school we adapt to the needs of the child, modifying their curriculum, where necessary, in order for them to learn. We believe in actively removing any barriers for learning to provide the same access and opportunities for learning, developing skills, knowledge and most importantly, independence.

‘What a child can do today with assistance, she will be able to do by herself tomorrow.’
Lev S. Vygotsky

Enjoyment, achievement and wellbeing for all…
Inclusive practice is at the heart of what we do and all staff are committed to create outstanding learning environments in which:

  • Children and young people feel safe, secure and valued
  • Children and young people are able to be themselves and feel accepted for who they are
  • Children and young people achieve their full potential
  • Children and young people develop confidence and the ability to express themselves
  • Professionals and parents work together in strong and effective partnerships to gain the best possible outcomes for the children and young people in their care

Sensory & Physical development
At New City Primary we recognise the importance of addressing children’s sensory and physical needs as an important component of a child’s overall development.
It is widely believed that children with autism and complex needs can often have difficulties processing sensory information. Children attend regular sensory PE sessions, these are organised to guide children through a range of activities that challenge their ability to respond appropriately to sensory input. We want for our children to develop and extend their physical skills.

We know that for families with a child with SEND, it can be difficult and unclear at times. It is our priority to work in close partnership with families. The Inclusion Lead is the main point of contact for all families with children with SEND.

New City Primary School SEND information report sets out in one place what we provide for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) throughout their time with us. This is a comprehensive document that aims to give families a clear overview of what SEND means at New City Primary.

SEN (Special Educational Needs) Information Report / SEND School Offer
All schools need to provide a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Information Report and a school offer. The school offer is part of the wider Local Authority Offer, and is based on the requirement for all schools to outline the support available to children with SEND.  To make it as easy as possible to find the information you require, we have laid it out as a series of questions parents/carers often ask about a school and what happens for children with SEND. If there is a question you would like answered that isn’t included below or you would like additional information, please let us know!
